welding Al to steel

Sorry it took so long to get this info. The experts say there are any number of ways to weld, bronze, and solder aluminum to steel; none of which work worth a shit in real life applications. They work when your piece is going to be in a non-reactive atmosphere like an oil bath but that's about it. In normal air you're going to get galvanic corrosion.

Best solution is to use sturdy aluminum tabs and make sure you isolate the bolt from the aluminum tab with a nylon grommet (not just a washer). Make sure you have no Al to Fe contact or you will see visible corrosion within a day or two.
